About
Kids Try What They Make.
That is the whole idea. A child who chops it, smells it and cooks it will taste it — and we have watched it work in Bay Area schools since 2017.
The founder
Purvi Shah, RDN
Purvi Shah is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Years of practice kept returning the same finding: adults working hard to unlearn habits that had been set by the age of seven.
So she moved upstream — to the age when food is still a question rather than a correction. Food Explorers began at one school in 2017.
Purvi writes every lesson our instructors teach: the dish, the skills it builds, the question behind it and the safety steps around it. She does not run the sessions herself — she trains the people who do.

Five Things We Hold To
No food is a bad food
We do not rank what children eat into good and bad. Shame has never taught anyone to enjoy a vegetable.
Children learn by doing
Not by watching an adult demonstrate. Every child in the room has a knife, a board and a job.
Curiosity beats instruction
“What do you think will happen?” works where “this is good for you” does not.
Food carries culture
A Turkish soup and a Filipino dessert teach more than technique. Children meet the world through its kitchens.
Confidence is the point
The skill that lasts is not the recipe. It is a child who believes they can feed themselves.
Where we are now
One School in 2017. Many More Today.
Purvi writes the curriculum; trained, background-checked instructors teach it. That is how a club at one school works the same way as a club across the county.
